With the onset of winter, it is necessary to review our options
in the event inclement weather strikes our area. There are three
options available:
- Keep school open
- Implement a two-hour delay
- Close the district
Option 1: Keep School District Open
If, after consulting with representatives from our bus company
and from Weather Central, it is determined that the children
can be transported safely, the district will remain open.
Option 2: Implement a Two-Hour Delay
If, after consulting with representatives from our bus company
and individuals from Weather Central, it is determined that we
can safely transport the children if we delay school by
two hours, we will do so.
Example: My child is usually picked-up at 6:15
A.M. and the radio/TV announcer said that the district has a two
hour delay. Answer: Your child will be picked-up at their usual
bus stop at 8:15 A.M.
School will be dismissed the usual way and time unless otherwise
noted.
Option 3: Close School District
If after consulting with representatives of our bus company and
individuals from Weather Central, it is determined that the road
conditions are not safe for our school busses to travel, the district
will cancel school. When this occurs, all extra-curriculuar activities
are also canceled.
All district weather related decisions will be made by
6:00 A.M. unless a winter storm develops during the
school day. This timing allows sufficient time to notify the
bus drivers, employees, and the radio and television stations
of our position.
The safety of the children will always be the primary factor when
making these decisions. However, please keep in mind this is not
an exact science. The weather and road conditions may be terrible
on one end of our district and fine on the other end. There can
also be times when surrounding school districts have school and
we do not, or vice-versa. We ask for your patience and understanding
during inclement weather.
