Class Description  
Clay I Clay I is an introduction to the use of clay and its properties. The students explore various construction techniques such as handbuilding, use of slab, coil, pinch, and potters wheel, lowfire whiteware, and terra cotta clays are used. Homework
Clay II This class works on developing advanced wheel throwing and hand building techniques. Students work with lowfire whiteware and highfire stoneware clays. They will also explore the use of slip cast molds. The students are involved with the technical aspects of firing the kilns, and at times will experience the outdoor raku firing process. Homework
Drawing I A student should take this class if they want to improve their drawing skills. The importance of intuition and how to foster and develop individual style to capture emotions and feelings in your work will be stressed. Students will be encouraged to draw from everyday life and record thoughts and dreams in a sketch book as sources for future drawings. In class drawings will be inspired by imagination, still-lifes, music, models, and art history. Drawing media explored includes pencil, colored pencil, water color pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, pen and ink and water color, and oil and chalk pastels. Homework
Drawing II Student will continue developing personal style and create a portfloio of drawings. They will explore mixed media drawing techniques and multiple material usage such as charcoal and water color, charcoal and conte sanguine, and drawing on toned paper. Students will work with two- and three-point perspectives and unusual points of view to develop uniquely expressive compositions. Homework
Art Principles Introduction to Art Principals is an introduction to the seven principals of art. Each student keeps a sketchbook and solves problems in a two-dimensional and three-dimensional mode. This class uses a wide variety of media. Homework
Fabric Arts The fabric arts class is designed to be an exploration of all the types of materials used by the fiber artist today. Historic and contemporary uses of fibers in our society and other cultures are examined. Students create fiber sculptures, baskets, handmade books, tie-dyed clothing and story cloths, batik, and jewelry. Homework
Painting I Painting is one of the most natural forms of communication. Literally thousands of paintings are created every day by people of all ages. This makes the visual arts a universal language. The development & history of world cultures, and major events, have been recorded on walls, canvas, paper, and many other surfaces. The painting process provides very personal glimpses into the lives & activities of humankind. Homework
Painting II Student artists will continue to refine their painting skills and develop personal style. They will anylize various paintings composition and quality through individual and group critiques. Students will develop a portfolio of several examples of different artistic styles and historic time periods. Homework
Multi-Media Independent Study I Created for the advanced art student that has had at least 3 art classes, Multi-Media is an independent study course. A contract will be designed including various projects that will be completed each quarter, and a processfolio will be kept to monitor progress. All media can be used when designing projects. Student/teacher critiques will be conducted throughout the semester. Two artist research papers are required, one of a contemporary artist, and the other of a historic style, or artist of the past. Students will prepare artist statements and design a display of their portfolio of work that was created during the semester for the art showcase. Homework
