Pupil Services in the Nekoosa district refers to a variety of coordinated programs and services designed to assist all pupils in gaining the maximum benefit from their school experiences.  Pupil services programs operate alongside and in conjunction with regular education programs, providing support and supplementary assistance to students and staff.

Our ideal goal in the district is to provide an appropriate learning experience for all students within the context of our regular education programs.  At times, however, students may have difficulties that require specialized or individualized services that cannot generally be provided within the regular classroom setting. In other cases, a student may simply require temporary support or assistance with a problem in order to get back on track. In such cases, pupil services programs are available to offer more intensive or more individualized help to assist the student in being able to benefit from his or her school experience.

In the Nekoosa District, the majority of our pupil services programs fall into the category of special education, serving the needs of students with identified disabilities. Special education programs are specifically designed to provide specialized educational services to children with significant impairments, as required by state and federal regulations.

In addition to special education programs, the Pupil Services Department oversees provision of a variety of other alternative or supplementary services, including services to students with limited English proficiency, children at risk, alcohol and other drug abuse programs, suicide prevention, school-age parent and other homebound services, and general services provided by our District school psychologists.  The Director of Pupil Services is the coordinator of services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and serves as the District’s primary contact for issues related to discrimination or harassment.
