Murals

Choices Graffiti Mural - 2000-2001

Life is made up of opposing forces... Which path will you choose?

Students in Painting I and II explored symbolic color schemes and word relationships, and how to make these choices work in creating the overall mural design. Each student designed their work in a graffiti style of lettering. Acrylic and spray paint were used. The bottom half of the mural is dark and disturbing, symbolizing the negative choices in life opposed to the top half, which is lighter and more visually pleasing, symbolizing the positive choices.

Nature's Walkway Mural - 2001-2002

"The object is to teach the students to see the land, to understand what he sees and enjoy what he understands." - Aldo Leopold

Inspiration for this mural came from the nature trail located on the school property. This ceramic tile mosaic mural was created by Clay I and II students in 2001. Three groups were formed and each researched the plant & animal life supported by the habitats, (woodland, wetland, grassland) located on the school district property. The Tech-Ed students set and grouted the tile for the mural. They also constructed the wooden frames and routered the lettering for the titles.

Our Environmental Club has created booklets that identify the major plants (along with their historic uses) found near the Nature's Walkway trail. The booklets are located in the libraries of the district schools.

"We abuse the land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with respect." - Aldo Leopold
