Student Assistance & Support
After School Tutoring
Any student who needs extra guidance and support in completing schoolwork is welcome to enroll in this program. Program details are available through our guidance office.
LEAP Tutoring
Tutoring is available to all AMS students. The staff of AMS believes the completion of homework is an essential part a child’s education. Students who are experiencing academic difficulty due to uncompleted schoolwork, may be placed in the LEAP tutoring program. LEAP provides students with the opportunities for additional academic assistance, in combination with progressive levels of accountability. We are concerned about our students’ academic standing. Please contact our school office if you have any concerns.
Saturday Tutoring
Students will have the opportunity to take advantage of the school’s computer lab, the IMC, and tutoring services from 8:00 a.m. to 11: 00 a.m. on Saturday. When there is no school on Friday, Saturday LEAP is canceled. Feel free to contact the school office to confirm the schedule.
SNAP Groups
SNAP (Students in Nekoosa Assistance Program) started in 1986. It is open to all AMS students and began as a drug and alcohol based prevention/intervention program. It has evolved into a more broadly based concept, offering students small group support sessions to help cope with any event in their lives that interferes with their ability to learn and be successful in school. It is a confidential relationship between students and trained SNAP facilitators, designed to develop confidence, communication and success. Students can self-refer to participate or they may be referred to the program. Each building has a trained coordinator who supervises the process and screens the candidates for participation. Questions about the program should be directed to the building coordinator or the guidance department.
Social Opportunities
Activity Nights
Grades 4, 5 & 6 have the opportunity to participate in activity nights. Participation is free and events are held after school hours. Games and/or movies are possible activities.
Dances
Students in 7th & 8th grade will have the opportunity to attend dances at AMS. Our dances are for AMS students only and prior arrangements need to be made if students plan to leave before the end of the scheduled event. |
