Book Battle Club
Book Battle club is open to any 6th, 7th or 8th grader who enjoys reading in a social atmosphere. The club meets monthly from September through April.  Members read books from a list of 15-20 titles. Students select their own teams. Teams of 2-4 members are formed to compete against other teams from the club. Competition consists of correctly answering questions regarding characters or events from the book list.

Chess Club
Are you in grades 6-8 and interested in chess? If so, you'll want to consider being part of the AMS March Madness Chess Classic. This after school chess tournament takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of March.

Forensics
Public speaking can be fun! Forensics is open to any 6th, 7th or 8th grader who wants to build their knowledge, confidence and interest in speaking as a life-long skill.  Club meetings begin in October.   Students become familiar with speaking techniques, and explore the 14 various categories. Coaches help you prepare your piece for competition and practice outside of meetings is required. Level I and Level II Competitions are held in January and February at AMS.

Math Team
An opportunity exists for 7th and 8th grade students, who are selected by their teachers, to participate in math competitions against a variety of school districts.

Music Listening Team
The music listening team is a group of eight sixth grade students who represent AMS at various competitions.  The students who earn the top eight scores on a series of exams in music class are chosen for the team.

Science Club
The science club, only open to 8th grade students, works individually and/or together on special science-related projects.  Students do recycling projects and take field trips.

Reader’s Club (4th Grade only)
The Reader’s Club program is an at-home reading incentive program.  We encourage students to read 15 minutes per day.  They may read an assortment of materials from library books, textbooks, magazines, cookbooks, etc.  For each day they read 15 minutes, they earn five points toward a 100 club certificate and a small prize.  They may earn up to the 600 club.  Half way through the year,  everyone starts over again at the 100 club level.  Any student who earns their way to the 600 club twice in  one year receives a reading medal and special certificate of achievement.  Our hope is to help foster a regular reading habit with our students.

S.H.O.P. (Students Helping Others Positively) Club - 7th & 8th Grade:
Students interested in working to maintain a positive atmosphere at Alexander Middle School, trough projects and fun activities, are encouraged to join this club.  Students will promote a system to maintain and continually improve district morale and pride, focusing on individual self-esteem and characteristics of positive thinking.  Students may also organize and participate in community service events.  Previous projects have included:  Red Ribbon Week (sock hop) dance, fundraisers for disaster relief, Thanksgiving Gotcha, Christmas tree decorating project, Valentine’s Day flower sale and student treats, May baskets for elderly, fun with elementary school students, Wakely site cleanup, and more.  Meetings are held approximately two times a month, on Wednesdays, during lunch.
